About LTRC Yoga

Do you feel intimidated by yoga or yoga studios? Maybe you feel that you are not flexible enough to practice yoga. If so, yoga at the Lutherville Timonium Rec. Council may be for you. This is a yoga class where we take our time, work with our breath practicing simple classical poses and holding them. Working with our breath while holding these poses not only helps mobility by releasing tightness in muscles and joints, but also releases tension and stress stored in the body helping us become more relaxed and giving us a better quality of life.

Many people ask if this class is for beginners. Yes, it is for beginners, but also for people that want to stay mobile and active. We don’t do headstands or wrap our foot behind our head in this class, so if you are looking for a fast paced class with advanced poses, this is not the class for you.

If you are interested in a simple basic yoga asana practice that:

Improves Mobility

Builds Stronger Muscles

Builds Stronger Bones

Improves Balance

Lowers Blood Pressure

Quiets the Mind

Helps One to Sleep Better

In general makes one Feel Happier

And you like to listen to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s like CSNY, Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty, maybe this class is for you.

We also practice a little pranayama, which is breath work that focuses on how we are breathing to relax and release tension stored in the body. We finish with a short meditation at the end of class and yes it’s okay to fall asleep. Thou, Swami Ramananda told me, try not to make a habit of it. lol

Meditation has been scientifically proven to provide many benefits along with building grey matter for our brain. It does not take years of practice either. Studies have shown grey matter can be grown in as short as 2 months with a daily practice. They believe that a meditation practice can push off diseases like Alzheimer’s.
